Pelosi Proves Impeachment Had Nothing to Do With the Constitution

( – On Wednesday, Jan 15, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) finally signed and forwarded two articles of impeachment to the Senate after withholding them for nearly four weeks. In the process, Pelosi has destroyed the case for impeachment and proven it was more about political opportunism than upholding the Constitution.

In June 2019, Pelosi made her opinions on impeachment clear:

“I don’t think you should impeach for political reasons and I don’t think you should not impeach for political reasons. It’s not about politics. It’s not about Democrats and Republicans. It’s not about partisanship. It’s about patriotism to our country. It’s upholding the Constitution of the United States.”

The challenge for Pelosi and the Democrats is that they have proven, once and for all, it was never about the Constitution or patriotism. It was about a partisan political agenda to remove President Trump from office that goes all the way back to 2017.

The facts today don’t line up with her rhetoric from last June.

Democrats Gloat and Pelosi Hands Out Souveniers

On Wednesday, Pelosi handed out commemorative pens after signing the two articles of impeachment. Inscribed on the pens was her name.

Many critics have said that the signing event felt more like a celebration than the “solemn” day she claimed it was. The pens were elegant black and gold presented on a silver tray.

The impeachment ceremony was inappropriate and representative of the true intent Democrats have had since the 2016 election. They have been waiting for this moment for three years and now that it’s here they can’t help but gloat. In doing so, they’ve sacrificed their integrity.

Pelosi Ruined the Impeachment for Democrats

In March 2019, Pelosi said, “Impeachment is so divisive to the country that, unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. He’s just not worth it.”

Last fall, she changed her mind and rushed the most divisive, partisan, impeachment in American history.

During the impeachment process, Pelosi claimed impeachment needed to happen fast because Trump’s “…wrongdoing strikes at the very heart of our Constitution. Our democracy is what is at stake. The president leaves us no choice but to act because he is trying to corrupt, once again, the election for his own benefit.”

Then, after the articles of impeachment were passed, she refused to send them to the Senate in a ploy to force the Senate to fulfill her wishes of waiting for new testimony. If she wanted more testimony, House Democrats should have demanded the enforcement of subpoenas by the courts. But, they couldn’t wait and had to act on an incomplete record that seemed better than no record at all.

Senate Democrats Voice Displeasure

Over the last few weeks, several Senate Democrats have started murmuring their displeasure with Pelosi’s tactics after rushing to “protect the country” and then sitting on them. Her actions were not only implausible; they were also hypocritical.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) said, “The longer it goes on the less urgent it becomes. So if it’s serious and urgent, send them over. If it isn’t, don’t send it over.”

Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) said, “I respect the fact that she is concerned about the fact about whether or not there will be a fair trial. But I do think it is time to get on with it.”

It Was Always About Politics

Pelosi knows Trump will not be removed by the Senate. Yet, to keep Democrats happy she chose to pursue a flawed impeachment in a frenzied hurry.

On Wednesday, Pelosi joyfully exclaimed that Trump is “impeached for life” and that “there is nothing the Senate can do to ever erase that.”

Does that sound like someone who feels sad for the country?

The fact is, the articles should have been immediately transferred to the Senate. However, Pelosi attempted to use them as leverage in hopes that Senators might do the work House Democrats did not do. Unfortunately for them, the Senate is not obligated to bow to their wishes thanks to the separation of powers. How the Senate handles the trial is up to the Senate and the Senate alone.

The articles of impeachment were never about protecting the country. It has always been about getting rid of Trump. From 2017 forward, House Democrats have repeatedly said so in their own words.

Was their political stunt worth the risk of losing the House and the presidency in November?

We’ll find out.

If voters reward Democrats for their behavior in November, America has a lot of soul searching to do.
