The plane carried seven people altogether, including the six visiting from France and their host. Shortly after takeoff out of nearby Page Municipal Airport on the Arizona side of the lake, the pilot reported issues, and the aircraft went down. When witnesses arrived to help, the rescue efforts quickly evolved into a medical emergency as three of the four required immediate helicopter evacuation to a hospital.
The pilot and one other person had minor injuries and went to a local facility by boat and then to a trauma center in Page. Divers from the Utah Department of Public Safety were working to recover the two victims from the submerged vessel in about 120 feet of water. Authorities weren’t releasing the names of those involved at the time of publication.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will investigate the cause of the crash.
