(UnitedVoice.com) – Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) is a leading contender for Joe Biden’s VP running mate. But, she’s made some disturbing statements during her time in public life. Over the weekend, an old video resurfaced from 2010, showing Bass praising the Church of Scientology.
At the time she was caught on video, she was serving in the California General Assembly. Bass made the comments at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the controversial organization. She said Scientology had made a real difference in Los Angeles and their creed “speaks to all people.”
On Saturday, Bass defended her past comments on social media. She claims her views on Scientology have changed over the past 10 years. She says now that the church has been exposed, people are more aware of the abuse allegations.

Bass (and her questionable judgment) has been a member of Congress representing Los Angeles County since 2011. Since 2018, she’s served as the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus. Before joining the US Congress, Bass spent six years in California’s State Assembly, where she became the first Black woman in our nation’s history to be the speaker of a state legislative body.
Time will tell if Biden chooses Bass as his VP, but she would be a controversial pick, to say the least.
