Rand Paul Takes a Stand on Trump and Impeachment

(UnitedVoice.com) – As the Democrats push forward with the show trial of former President Trump’s second impeachment, a GOP senator has blasted them for presiding over a “farce.” It adds to a rising chorus of complaints that the impeachment is unfair, unnecessary and unconstitutional.

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) spoke to Fox News on February 7, and he had harsh words for the Democrats who pushed through the second impeachment of President Trump – an impeachment that never had any hope of removing the president from office. Calling it a “partisan farce,” he accused Democrats of trying to criminalize speech and said if the rules were applied evenly, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) should be impeached, too.

Paul said that while he didn’t agree with attempts to overturn the election result, this impeachment is effectively clamping down on political speech. He also pointed out that the refusal of Chief Justice Roberts to preside over the trial underlines how partisan it is – that and the fact that the process will be chaired by Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), who has already voted for impeachment. That’s sure to lead to a fair trial, right?
