(UnitedVoice.com) – One Republican governor is challenging the GOP to rethink its purpose and grow its influence among voters. Speaking before the Republic National Convention (RNC) during the party’s annual winter business meeting on Thursday, January 7, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) helped the party to understand why incumbent Senators David Perdue (R-GA) and Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) lost their runoff races earlier in the week.
She stated unequivocally that the GOP got their butts kicked by someone with “no accomplishments and a smooth-talking preacher.” She questioned why Georgians, like so many in the country, are embracing socialism and offered an insightful answer.
Why Did Georgia Lose to Socialists?
Gov. Noem is a strong supporter of President Trump. Since COVID-19 ravaged society in March 2020, she resisted shutting down her state, mandating masks or other draconian measures. Noem said one reason why the GOP is losing ground to Democratic socialists is that the party fails on issues of healthcare, immigration, and fiscal discipline.
However, one thing she said strikes at the very heart of politics and the challenge before the GOP: “We have to put an end to the accounting gimmicks we use to deceive people.”
How Are People’s Lives Better?
On this point, the governor is on to something. For decades, politicians in both parties grew adept at tickling the ears of voters. Republicans love to talk about the national debt and a growing intrusion of government into people’s lives. Yet, year after year, the debt is exploding, the federal government grew larger, and the government is more intrusive in our lives than ever. During most of the last decade, Republicans controlled one or both chambers of Congress.
When properly followed, conservatism can unleash the economy and create prosperity. Instead of trapping people in hopelessness and despair through government programs, conservatism challenges every person to rise above their circumstances. It empowers people to escape poverty and use their God-given talents to pursue their dreams.
Under President Trump, America was beginning to make that leap in many regards. However, conservatives focused on socialism instead of hope and opportunity. Noem reminded the GOP that good policies make for great messages and stories that inspire people to fulfill their dreams.
If people experience conservative policies, socialism and leftist demagoguery will struggle to maintain their chokehold on government and society.
It’s about time someone delivers the message to the Grand Old Party.
