(UnitedVoice.com) – Over the last several years, Democrats and other activists have pushed to allow transgender people in locker rooms and bathrooms that do not match their biological gender. President Joe Biden signed an executive order when he took office trying to force states to do just that. Tennessee’s governor has now pushed back.
On Friday, May 14, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee (R) signed the “Tennessee Accommodations for All Children Act” into law. The legislation requires students to use the bathroom, locker room or other changing facility that corresponds with their biological sex. It also allows students to refuse to use multi-person restrooms and locker rooms that trans individuals have used. And, they can now sue if their school allows trans people to use the bathroom of their choice.
Opponents of the bill say the legislation discriminates against transgender people. The governor insists it promotes equality because the trans students will be able to use their own restroom without anyone, including themselves, feeling uncomfortable.
