(UnitedVoice.com) – Title 42 has officially ended, and border states are grappling with how to handle the immigration problem. Republicans have blamed President Joe Biden for his lax immigration policies. Now, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is answering the call of another leader who needs help.
On May 16, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) sent a letter to his fellow governors asking for help securing the border. He asked for help through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), which allows states to help one another respond to emergencies. The governor claimed the surge in “illegal immigration and transnational criminal activity” is the result of the administration’s actions. He warned that the problems won’t just stop in his state.
Abbott asked his fellow governors to join him in the fight to “defend our national sovereignty and territorial integrity” by sending “all available law enforcement personnel and resources” to the Texas-Mexico border.

After Abbott’s request, DeSantis announced the state is ready to help out. Florida will be deploying more than 1,100 personnel to the border, including 800 Florida National Guard members, 101 Highway Patrol Troopers, 200 Florida Department of Law Enforcement Officers, 20 Emergency Management Personnel, and other resources.
The governor said the president’s border crisis is affecting communities throughout the country. He went on to say the “abdication of duty undermines the sovereignty of our country and the rule of law.”
While Texas begs for help to protect Americans from the potential dangers of thousands of unknown people entering the country every day, Vice President Kamala Harris has downplayed the problem. On Friday, May 12, she attended a fundraiser in Georgia. An Atlanta news outlet asked her to respond to criticism that she was fundraising while the problem at the border rages. She responded that everything “is going rather smoothly” and said the immigration issues are “the responsibility of the [US] Congress.”
