Save Money on Medication

For some, medication is more expensive than a mortgage payment. You may not be able to force pharmacies to lower their prices, but there are still things you can do to lower the cost of your medications. It starts before you even turn in the prescription.
Ask your doctor if there is another medicine that does the same thing. All too often we simply take the prescription and go, without asking any questions. However, if you can talk openly to your doctor about your finances, he or she may be able to offer something that’s more affordable.
Shop around. Walmart offers a lengthy list of medications for just $4. Other stores may offer their own discount cards. Ask your friends where they get their prescriptions, if they get the same medications as you do. Compare prices and see where you can save. Although you may think you have to get everything at one place, you don’t. All you have to do is let your doctor know where and why you get each one.
Contact the company. Some drug companies offer discounts or even free samples to those who can’t afford the prescription. You may have to fill out a financial aid form, or it might be as easy as one phone call. Either way, it’s worth looking into when it could save you thousands.
