(UnitedVoice.com) – During a press conference in New York on Sunday night, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) announced that he’s ready to “force votes for witnesses and documents,” during this week’s impeachment trial.
Schumer added that “We have the right to do it, we are going to do it and we are going to do it at the beginning on Tuesday if leader McConnell doesn’t call for these witnesses in his proposal.”
McConnell has said numerous times that he wants to wait until after opening arguments and questions have been completed at the start of the impeachment trial before there’s a debate on calling additional witnesses.
If it does come down to a vote, chances are Schumer will be disappointed. In order for the vote to pass, 51 senators would have to vote yes. That means that 4 Republicans would need to side with the 47 Democrats, something that seems unlikely.
