Second Man Shot and Killed After Opening His Front Door in a Month

Man Opens His Front Door… Now He’s Dead!

(UnitedVoice.com) – Even Rev. Al Sharpton has complained that crime in New York is “out of control.” Major incidents in the city are up nearly 40% over last year. When considering lawlessness in urban areas, muggings, gang violence, and other crimes of opportunity come to mind. Still, for a second time in recent memory, merely opening the front door turned out to be a deadly decision.

On August 27, Roquez Villalta-Jimenez died at the hands of an unknown assailant after answering a knock at the door. The incident occurred on East 12th St. in Huntington Station, a hamlet on Long Island. A neighbor told News 12 he thought he heard a faint gunshot and asked her to check the cameras. She saw nothing until the police came across the screen.

This is the second shooting of its kind in the town. According to local outlets, police have no information on suspects, motives, or whether the two shootings are related. Huntington Station has issues with crime and violence. Suffolk District Attorney and State Assemblyman Steve Stern wants to bring back a system called ShotSpotter that records the sounds of weapons fire and sends data to local police. The hamlet is on the list of towns waiting for grants to install the possibly life-saving technology, which could drastically reduce shooting response times.
