Senate Republicans Are Investigating Hunter Biden

( – Democrats are about to learn that what goes around, comes around. Senate Republicans received documents from the Treasury Department regarding Hunter Biden. The information is reportedly related to Biden’s time at a Ukrainian gas company, Burisma Holdings. GOP lawmakers have been calling for investigations into Hunter and his father, Joe Biden, the former vice president. It looks like at least one of those has already been set in motion.

Shady Business

The inquiry into the younger Biden is the result of his $50,000 a month job at the gas company. He was a member of the board of the company though he reportedly had no experience. There’s speculation that he only had the job because his father was the vice president at the time.

Hunter’s father has also been accused of pushing the Ukrainian government to fire a prosecutor who was looking into Burisma. These allegations are what led President Donald Trump to ask Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate the scandal. The president has said he wants to make sure the country is rooting out corruption. His concern, unfortunately, led to his impeachment and later, thankfully, his acquittal.

Republicans aren’t only concerned about Ukraine. They also want to know if Hunter was using American tax dollars to travel for business while his father was in office.

The Inquiry

Yahoo reported the news that the Treasury Department has handed over Hunter’s highly sensitive financial records. Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Ron Johnson (R-WI) asked for financial records through the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), a bureau within the Treasury Department that monitors money laundering and other financial crimes.

The senators aren’t just looking into Ukraine, they want to know about Hunter’s business dealings with China too. Joe Biden’s surviving son served as a board member at the private equity firm Bohai Harvest RST. In 2019, Fox News reported the $1 billion joint investment firm was registered right before he and his dad went to the country on Air Force Two in December 2013.

On the trip, Hunter reportedly arranged to have his father shake hands with Jonathan Li, one of his Chinese business partners. This trip led to questions about whether he was using “government-sponsored travel to help conduct private business.”

GOP Presses On

Democrats are outraged about the government oversight after preaching about exactly that during the Trump impeachment trial. Republicans are undeterred. Through a spokesperson, Sen. Grassley slammed his colleagues on the other side of the aisle for attempting to interfere with “legitimate government oversight.” The GOP plans to move forward to find the answers the American people want.
