Rumors of Jeff Sessions running for his old Senate seat in Alabama have been gaining traction lately, and now one politician has reached out to provide his support.
Sen. Richard Shelby, a former college of Sessions, said that he spoke with the former attorney general and even though he hasn’t made an official decision, “a lot of indications point to him running.”
If he does run, Shelby said he will have no problem endorsing his longtime friend.
The primary field for the open Senate seat already has eight candidates who have declared they are running. This includes John Merrill, who has served as Alabama’s Secretary of State since 2015, and Arnold Mooney, a state representative.
