Taylor Swift Documentary Beaten by ‘Sound of Freedom’

Taylor Swift Booted From Top Spot

(UnitedVoice.com) – Singer Taylor Swift had an unbelievable 2023. She began her latest concert tour and released a documentary about it that made millions. It appeared the liberal pop star was unstoppable. Then a low-budget film overtook her on a list of last year’s highest-grossing films.

“Sound of Freedom” landed at number nine on the top 10 list of the highest-grossing films in 2023. The film beat Swift’s documentary “The Eras Tour,” which finished the year at number 10. However, when “Avatar: The Way of Water” is factored onto the list, Swift is pushed to spot 11. The “Avatar” movie was actually released in 2022, but it became one of the highest-grossing films in 2023.

According to Box Office Mojo, which keeps track of the Box Office’s highest earners, “Sound of Freedom” made more than $184 million in sales. Swift’s documentary made over than $5 million less than the conservative film.

“Sound of Freedom” is based on the true story of Tim Ballard, a former agent for the US government who makes it his mission to rescue kids from sex traffickers with his organization, Operation Underground Railroad. The film earned praise from people on both sides of the political aisle when it was released in theaters.

The movie was produced by Angel Studios, with a budget of just $14.5 million. It was released in theaters on July 4 and became a major blockbuster hit. While the film got many positive reviews from film critics, it also received negative reviews from The New York Times and others. Times critic Glenn Kenny said the film felt “inappropriate” and accuses Ballard of “coddl[ing] the pedophile” he was interacting with before setting up a sting. Others accused the film of pushing conspiracy theories.

Despite the critical reviews, Americans flocked to watch a good guy save a child and made the film a blockbuster hit. Beating Swift was the icing on the cake.
