(UnitedVoice.com) – Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Mark Milley said in a statement earlier this week a letter saying the US will withdraw troops from Iraq should not have been released.
The letter released was a draft of a memo to the Iraqi government from US Command in Baghdad stating US forces in their country would be sent elsewhere.
When asked about the letter, Defense Secretary Mark Esper said,
“We are repositioning forces throughout the region. That letter is inconsistent with where we are right now.”
Milley elaborated, “That letter is a draft. It was a mistake, it was unsigned, it should not have been released … (it was) poorly worded implies withdrawal, that is not what’s happening. It’s an honest mistake … it should not have been sent.”
