Tom Cotton Decides Not To Run for President
(UnitedVoice.com) – Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) rose to prominence in 2015 under former President Barack Obama. During the lawmaker’s first term in the upper chamber, he spearheaded an effort to sink the Iran nuclear agreement. Seven years later, he’s become one of Congress’s most prominent conservative voices. And it looks like that’s where he intends to remain for the foreseeable future.
2024 Presidential Race
According to reports, Cotton has decided not to run for president in 2024. The senator had reportedly been looking into launching a White House bid in the next cycle and had spent roughly two years campaigning for other party members. He set up a retreat for his donors at a Virginia spa, scheduled for after the midterms. He also released a book about the history of the military.
Yet, over the last week, the senator has allegedly started calling his allies and donors to let them know he’s decided not to run. Cotton’s primary concern was that a national presidential campaign would be too difficult on his two children, ages five and seven.
During an interview with Fox News, Cotton said the time isn’t right for him to “commit to a six-to-seven day a week campaign for the next two years.” He explained that his “family was really the only consideration” when he decided he didn’t want to run for POTUS.
Who Will Run?
Nobody has declared their intentions to run for the White House in 2024 at the time of publication, though it’s widely believed former President Donald Trump will try his luck again. He has said he won’t decide until after the midterm elections. How soon after is still up in the air, though there has been much speculation.
If Trump decides to run for a second term, he remains the likely frontrunner. The former POTUS has wide-ranging support in the GOP and can still bring massive crowds of people to rallies.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is also one of the names pundits are tossing around as a possible candidate for the GOP nomination. The conservative has commanded respect for his handling of Florida’s pandemic response and how he has taken on the Left. DeSantis also spearheaded education laws to protect kids from indoctrination, and he’s even fought back against Disney. The Sunshine State’s leader has not indicated he wants to run, but many are hoping he does.
