(UnitedVoice.com) – When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, conversations began about the possibility of World War III. US President Joe Biden has repeatedly said he wants to prevent another war of that nature from breaking out. It’s one of the reasons he hasn’t sent American troops to Ukraine. He has also used it as an excuse to deny Ukraine access to certain weapons and equipment. For instance, last year, Biden refused to send military aircraft to the country.
A Ukrainian official recently claimed there is no preventing WWIII from taking place because it has already started.
Has it Already Begun?
On September 5, former CIA Director David Petraeus, who was also the top commander in the Iraq War, attended the Kyiv Security Forum. Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksiy Danilov was also at the event.
During the event, Danilov said that those who think WWIII hasn’t started have made “a big mistake.” He went on to say that “some sober-minded people have said this is not the last war in this century,” and the conflict in Eastern Europe is about more than just Ukraine and Russia.
Danilov slammed Westerners calling on Ukraine to negotiate with Russia to end the war, saying parts of their male anatomy are “now soft-boiled eggs” and accusing them of being “scared stiff of Russia.” The official went on to say his country has no intention of negotiating to end the way now because Russian President Vladimir Putin is a “killer of Ukrainian children” and he should be “locked up and remain behind bars.”
Not The Only Official
At the beginning of the war, in March 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made similar remarks about WWIII. During an interview with “NBC Nightly News” host Lester Holt, the comedian-turned-president said that it’s possible the war “may have already started.” He claimed that 80 years ago when WWII started, nobody was “able to predict when the full-scale war would start.”
Zelenskyy went on to tell Holt that he believed the Russian war put the “whole civilization at stake.”
During the Kyiv Security Forum, Petraeus echoed those sentiments, saying the conflict was a lot like the Second World War. The retired four-star general said he hasn’t seen anything like the current conflict in Ukraine since the war eight decades ago.
Although no other country has boots on the ground in defense of Ukraine in the war, several NATO countries have sent the country billions of dollars to fight the war.
