In what appears to be an attempt to impact our elections and reassert themselves into the American psyche, Al Qaeda could be planning to attack three states on Monday: New York, Texas, and Virginia. According to a CBS News report, U.S. intelligence agencies have confirmed the threat and notified joint terrorism task forces.
As we have long said, in this environment, homegrown violent extremists could strike with little or no notice. Our concern that violent extremists could be inspired to conduct attacks inside the U.S. have not diminished” warned the U.S. intelligence official.”
While these three states have been identified as targets, specific locations inside these states have not. A senior FBI official told CBS News that U.S. law enforcement agencies are ready for whatever comes.
“The counter-terrorism and homeland security communities remain vigilant and well-postured to defend against attacks here in the United States,” said the senior FBI official. The credibility of the threat is still being assessed, but an alert was issued in the event the threat proves to be legitimate.
