(UnitedVoice.com) – Democrats don’t get the message. It almost feels like Groundhog Day all over again. When one bill fails, they pivot to another. When that one fails, they go back to the first one that failed. Then, it’s just rinse and repeat. It’s insane; they just keep going back to the well, hoping to find water amid a drought.
On Wednesday, January 19, Senate Democrats failed to secure the vote of Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) to carve out the filibuster. That killed any chances the Democrats had of passing their radical election rules legislation that would federalize elections and make it easier for Democrats to win upcoming elections. Now that they’ve failed for the fourth time in six months to pass their supposed election reforms, they’re going back to the partisan semi-socialist Build Back Better agenda, which has already failed twice.
Democrats Are Relentless
When will Democrats get the message? Voters aren’t interested in election rules and alleged voter suppression — because they know it doesn’t exist. They aren’t concerned about social welfare programs and don’t want a bigger, more intrusive government. Yet, President Joe Biden is doubling down on efforts to secure his legacy over what’s best for the country.
On Wednesday, Biden told the press that his agenda is not dead. That’s despite Manchin’s declaration in December that he would not vote for the bill because it went too far, cost too much, would add to the national debt too much, and exacerbate inflation. However, Biden says that the solution to inflation is to throw trillions of more taxpayer government dollars into the economy, trap more people in government dependency, and make the cost of business more expensive through climate change regulations that may or may not work.
We already know that Biden’s economic plan to spend and make government work only creates greater inflation and economic calamity.
So, here we go again. Democrats are whiplashing America as they pivot back to Build Back Better. Biden said to get his stalled plan through the Senate, he would need to break up the $1.7 trillion bill into legislative “chunks.”
Either the president misspoke, or his memory is failing him.
Democrats Can Only Use Reconciliation Once Per Year
Under Senate rules, Democrats can’t use reconciliation in perpetuity to get around the minority party. So, Biden says they need to break up the bill. If Democrats do that and pursue reconciliation, they will need to rethink their strategy to acquire Manchin’s vote. Biden stated that Democrats should get what they can now and come back for the rest later.
Here’s the problem. If Democrats break up their partisan legislation, they can’t pass it in small chunks without GOP support. They are unlikely to get the GOP to go along with much, or any, of the Democratic agenda. So, Biden is setting up Democrats for another bruising fight ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. The far-Left is dug in on its requirements, and Democratic centrists in the House and Senate are dug in on their issues. Both say they are willing to negotiate. That sounds good until proposals start getting axed and vulnerable politicians start casting votes.
Either way, are Democrats going to do this again?
