Woman Sues Hospital Over Gender Surgery When She Was 13 Years Old

(UnitedVoice.com) – One of the concerns opponents of gender reassignment surgery for minors have is the possibility kids will regret making the decision later on in life. It’s the possibility that the child is going through a phase. It turns out they have cause for concern, as a woman is now suing her physician and hospital for that very reason.

On June 14, attorneys for 18-year-old Kayla Lovdahl filed a lawsuit against Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, the Permanente Medical Group, and several doctors. According to the suit, the plaintiff suffered from a wide array of complex mental health problems. Those issues included anxiety, mood changes, defiant and oppositional disorders, and gender dysphoria. Lovdahl’s mom allegedly asked the doctors about whether she was bipolar repeatedly because she, too, has a bipolar diagnosis.

When the plaintiff was 11, the suit claims she began following transgender social media influencers and started to think she was trans too. She told her parents she was a boy, so they reached out to the defendants. The parents say Lovdahl was never properly diagnosed, and the doctors placed her on puberty blockers when she was 12. Within six months, the lawsuit accuses the doctors of performing a double mastectomy.

The plaintiff detransitioned when she was 17 years old, but she’s missing her breasts because of a doctor who spent just 30 minutes with her. The suit alleges the defendants of the lawsuit “did not question, elicit, or attempt to understand the psychological events” that culminated in Lovdahl’s declaration that she was a boy. Instead, the medical staff took the word of an “emotionally troubled girl” who decided she knew what was best when she was just a child.

Lovdahl is seeking money for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and the costs of filing the suits. In a statement shared with the press, Center for American Liberty CEO Harmeet Dhillon, an organization representing her, accused Kaiser of continuing to “engage in this quackery” by allowing kids to undergo irreversible sex reassignment treatments.
