This week, former President Obama spoke out against the “cancel culture” and told young adults at a conference that it isn’t the way to change society.
That sounded so good that both Conservatives and Liberals alike agreed with him. Unfortunately, it’s too little, too late.
What Is Cancel Culture?
Cancel Culture is when a person of influence or celebrity is judged by a mass of people quickly — and those same people are slow to question the facts. The accused is then banned and prevented from speaking, working or otherwise having a life. It’s a punishment without a judge or jury, let alone any facts to determine guilt or innocence.
The cancel culture movement primarily exists on the far left as Liberals attempt to push their views on the rest of the country. Forget the First Amendment — it only applies if you’re on the Left and if, of course, you agree with them — let’s not forget that small fact.
Almost no one is left unscathed if they make Conservatives, Republicans or President Trump look good in any way. Victims have included comedians, actors, musicians and TV hosts, including Dave Chappell and Roseanne Barr, just to name a few. Oh, and let’s not forget how Liberals went after one of their own recently when Ellen DeGeneres refused to be shamed for enjoying a live football game with former President George W. Bush.
While there are other Liberal victims, Conservatives have taken the brunt of the cancel culture movement. Consider the fact that a Conservative who tries to speak at a public university is often met with violence and destruction of public property if the university does not rescind the invitation.
It isn’t just celebrities or conservative talk show hosts who have experienced it. Try to share a positive opinion about Trump, and you can be assured that some Liberal will quickly come and brand you in a very unflattering way. Say something in the workplace and see how quickly you end up in HR.
Because cancel culture is all about power and control, and the Left believes they are the only ones who should wield it. They are right and everyone else is wrong — if you don’t agree with them, you’re an idiot who deserves what you get.
Where did this irresponsible and un-American behavior come from?
How easily we forget!
Obama is partially responsible for creating the cancel culture and his legacy is the enabler of it.
In 2009, Obama and the administration started the attacks on the press, in particular, Fox News.
“Obama White House Communications Director Anita Dunn told The New York Times in 2009, ‘We’re going to treat them the way we would treat an opponent.’”
It was Obama who tried to silence Conservatives by weaponizing the IRS, and it was Obama who used the spy agencies to try and delegitimize the Trump Presidency before it ever started.
It was also Obama who pitted groups of Americans against one another and who said of small-town Americans that “They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion…”
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) got it right last year:
Pres. Obama is right. It is wrong for a President to use divisive language, such as:
1. Call all opponents of same-sex marriage bigots
2. Call the Pro-Life movement a "War on Women"
3. Call all immigration enforcement advocates racists
4. Call the GOP the enemy of Hispanics

Finally, in 2016, it was Obama who said that Trump was unfit to serve as president. He went on to say, “There has to be a point at which you say, ‘Enough…’”
The former president’s rhetoric over eight years led to the marches on inauguration day where left-wing celebrities used vulgar language calling for boycott’s on Trump, his family, his businesses and his supporters, and it hasn’t let up since. Those who have served the president have been boycotted, kicked out of restaurants and other public places, and shamed for associating with the administration.
It’s vain for Obama to come out now and say, “…this idea of purity and you’re never compromised and you’re always politically woke and all that stuff, you should get over that quickly. The world is messy. There are ambiguities. People who do really good stuff have flaws.”
Where has he been?
Why has he been waiting and why did it take so long to speak out against the cancel culture? Why now? All good questions we probably won’t get answers to.
He helped create it and he needs to take responsibility for his share in the toxic culture on the Left that is now at war with the mainstream of America.
If Obama were sincere, he never would’ve spoken of people the way he has over the last 10+ years, and more importantly, if he really believed what he is saying now, he would have told the Left to knock it off after Trump won the presidency.
