DR Power Equipment is recalling about 42,860 Pilot and Premier walk-behind trimmer mowers because grass and debris can build up inside them and catch fire.

Story Snapshot

  • The recall covers eight Pilot and Premier trimmer mower models, all serial numbers, sold from November 2022 through July 2026.
  • Grass and debris can collect inside the machine and ignite, which can cause serious burns or worse.
  • The company has 19 reports of the mowers catching fire and two reports of minor injuries, including blisters on hands and feet.
  • Owners should stop using them and get a free repair kit, or a free repair by a dealer.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission, or CPSC, the federal agency that watches over the safety of household products, announced the recall on Thursday, October 8. The agency says grass and debris can pile up inside the trimmer mowers and ignite, putting the person using the machine at risk of serious injury or death from fire and burns.

What A Trimmer Mower Is

A walk-behind trimmer mower is a gas-powered trimmer on two wheels that you push on foot. Instead of a blade, it cuts with thick cord, like a large weed trimmer. Owners use it to mow thick grass and weeds and to trim close to fence lines, foundations and other obstacles.

The recalled mowers are orange and black. They have the DR Power logo on top of the motor and on the top of the frame above the cutter head. They are labeled “Premier” or “Pro” on the side of the frame, and the model number is on a label on the side of the frame.

Which Models Are Recalled

The recall covers these model numbers, including reconditioned units marked “RECON”: T4X1076DMN, T4X1076DMNR, T4X1076DMNSD, T4X1176DMN, T4X1176DMN-1, T4X1176DMNR, TR43076DMN and TR43076DMNR. All serial numbers are included.

The mowers sold for $380 to $550 at Ace, TSC, Bomgaars and other home improvement, hardware and power equipment stores across the country, and online at drpower.com. About 340 more were sold in Canada, where a matching recall is under way. The mowers were made in the United States and Vietnam for Generac Power Systems of Waukesha, Wisconsin.

What Owners Should Do

The CPSC says owners should stop using the recalled mowers immediately and contact DR Power Equipment for a free repair kit. Owners who would rather not install the kit themselves can ask the company to set up a free repair by an authorized dealer.

DR Power can be reached toll-free at 800-854-3194 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern, Monday through Friday, or by email at [email protected]. Recall details are online at drpower.com/recalls, or at drpower.com by clicking “Product Recalls” at the bottom of the page.

To check a machine, look for the model number on the label on the side of the frame and compare it with the list above. If it matches, park the mower until the repair is done.
