DeSantis Comeback? Major Endorsement Announced

(UnitedVoice.com) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) was once seen as a serious competitor for the GOP nomination for president. After numerous gaffes, the excitement around the governor waned. His poll numbers were stagnant. Now, he has received a big endorsement, and some are wondering if he’s making a comeback.

On November 6, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds (R) endorsed DeSantis for president. The governor spoke at a rally for her Florida counterpart in Des Moines and told the crowd that he’s “the person that we need leading this country.” She said there’s “too much at stake” in the next election.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, she told her followers that DeSantis is the candidate who will fight for them.

In a joint interview with DeSantis on NBC News, Reynolds said she doesn’t think former President Donald Trump can win the race against President Joe Biden. She explained that was a “big reason” she decided to endorse the Florida governor. DeSantis expressed appreciation for the Iowa governor’s endorsement. The state is the first one that will hold caucuses next year, and the conservative candidate is hoping to win it. He said Reyolds is “a great leader that Iowans love,” and every time he mentions her, the crowd cheers for her.

While DeSantis might think Reynolds is popular, her poll numbers suggest otherwise. An Emerson College survey shows she has an approval rating of just 32% among Iowa residents and only 55% among Republicans.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump mocked the endorsement. He asked why anyone would “endorse Ron DeSanctimonious, who is like a wounded bird falling from the sky.” The former president accused the Florida governor of fighting to try to destroy Medicare and Social Security and pointed out that Reynolds is often referred to as the “[n]ations most unpopular governor.”

How much Reynolds’ endorsement helps DeSantis remains to be seen.
