Reality Television Star Dead at 29

(UnitedVoice.com) – The television show “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” only aired for a few seasons but had a lasting impact on pop culture. In May, June Shannon, also known as Mama June, announced her daughter, Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, had stage 4 cancer. At that time, she’d undergone four rounds of chemotherapy. Months later, she revealed her daughter passed away.

On Sunday, December 10, Shannon announced that Cardwell had died the previous evening. She said her daughter “gave one hell of a fight for 10 months [but] she passed away” with her family surrounding her. Shannon promised to update her supporters with more information in the coming days.

The announcement came just days after Shannon gave an update about her daughter’s condition, saying that things had changed in their lives and letting fans know it would be her last message to them until Cardwell passed away. At that time, she promised to update everyone on social media “because Anna would not have it any f***ing other way.”

Doctors diagnosed Cardwell with adrenal cancer. According to the Mayo Clinic, the cancer is rare and begins in the adrenal glands at the top of the kidneys. When caught early enough, the cancer has a high rate of survival but the chances of someone going into remission becomes more unlikely when it spreads to other areas of the body. Typically, it impacts children under the age of 5 or adults in their 40s and 50s. Cardwell was just 29 years old.

Cardwell was the oldest of Shannon’s daughters. She starred in “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” a show about her little sister, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson. She also appeared in the show “Toddlers & Tiaras.”

Thompson mourned her sister’s death in an Instagram post, saying her heart was “completely broken” after watching her sister fight the “horrible disease.” She promised to make sure her sister’s “legacy lives on forever.”

Cardwell is survived by her two daughters and her husband.
