RFK Jr. Swaps Parties, Adds Third Option to Presidential Race

RFK Jr. To Swap Parties, Add Third Option to Presidential Race

(UnitedVoice.com) – The Kennedy Family is a Democratic powerhouse. When Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) Jr. announced he was running for the Dem nomination against President Joe Biden, he reportedly angered some members of his family. Now, he has changed his mind, deserted that goal, and has decided to run on his own.

On Monday, October 9, RFK Jr. announced he was launching an independent bid for the White House. The former Democrat said he’s going to make both Republicans and members of his former party angry by running as an independent. That’s because the 2024 race is expected to be incredibly close. Someone like RFK Jr. could hurt both Biden and the eventual GOP candidate.

American Values 2024, a super PAC supporting RFK Jr., raised $11.28 million in the six hours after his announcement, which took place in Philadelphia. POLITICO reported that Tony Lyons, the co-founder of the PAC, issued a press release saying that RFK Jr. has been silenced through a “powerful censorship and propaganda campaign,” and the American people see through it. He said those people are mad at the Democratic National Committee because they tried “to disenfranchise them” and want “to support an honest Democrat.”

Lyons is also pushing Elon Musk to endorse the candidate.

Republicans aren’t thrilled about RFK Jr’s sudden switch. Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel called him a “radical, far-left Democrat.” She said he has a “record of endorsing Hillary Clinton, supporting the Green New Deal […] and praising [Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY)] tax hikes.”

Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for former President Donald Trump, said RFK Jr’s candidacy is “a vanity project for a liberal Kennedy looking to cash in on his family’s name.”

RFK Jr’s announcement means he will not be under any party’s umbrella. That also means it could be harder for him to get on the ballots in all 50 states. If he has big backers behind him, like Musk, that could make the process easier. One thing is for certain, his announcement just made winning the election harder for Biden and his eventual GOP opponent.
