Senate Candidate Slams Romney, Claims State is Embarrassed by Him

(UnitedVoice.com) – Earlier this year, Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) announced he wasn’t running for reelection. He claimed he wanted to spend more time with his family. One of the candidates running for Romney’s Senate seat recently criticized him after he attacked former President Donald Trump.

On December 10, Romney appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” He told host Kristen Welker that the former president is like a “human gumball machine” because of his tendency to give unfiltered remarks. His insult came after Trump said he wouldn’t be a dictator if he wins the 2024 election “other than day one.”

Romney said that once Trump has a thought, it comes right “out of his mouth. There’s not a lot of filter that goes on.” He accused the former president of just saying whatever and being a danger to democracy.

Trent Staggs spoke to “Breitbart News Saturday” on December 16 and said that Utahns were embarrassed by Romney. He claimed the state’s residents are “tired of Mitt Romney” because the only thing he’s “passionate about one thing and that’s to go after President Trump.”

Staggs, the mayor of Riverton, also criticized some of his fellow Republican primary candidates who want to take the senator’s seat. He said that they are trying to be the next Romney and “they’re very much part of the establishment of the Utah swamp.” He pointed out that Never Trumpers are donating big to Utah Speaker of the House Brad Wilson.

Staggs accused Wilson of not telling voters where “he stands on the issues.” He, on the other hand, has made it clear that he opposes “inappropriate materials” in schools, Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing, and illegal immigration. He also said he wants to prohibit former lawmakers from working for defense contractors or becoming lobbyists.

In addition to Staggs and Wilson, five other Republicans are also running for the Senate seat Romney will leave.
