Youth Fatal Shoots Father in Heroic Stand to Protect His Family

(UnitedVoice.com) – Domestic violence is a serious issue around the country. It impacts millions of women and children each year. A boy in Pennsylvania is being hailed as a hero after he saved his family from his violent father.

On January 7, police responded to a call in Lower Mahanoy Township in Northumberland County around 5 p.m. local time. They were told two individuals were dead. When they arrived, they found the bodies of Brandi Houck, 31, and Tracey Adams, 47.

According to authorities, Adams was in a domestic dispute with his wife and their young daughter. He then followed them to his stepdaughter’s home when they, along with his juvenile son, escaped him. The 31-year-old woman told him to leave her house, and that’s when he allegedly shot her through her front door, killing her.

After Adams reportedly murdered Houck, he threatened to kill the others in the house. That’s when his son retrieved a firearm from inside the home and fatally shot his father while shielding his sister and mother. The police have not said how old the boy is.

Northumberland County District Attorney Michael O’Donnell told the press that there would be no charges filed against the boy. He said the evidence at the house and the witness statements showed that it was “a pretty obvious case of self-defense.” O’Donnell credited the boy with saving the lives of multiple people.

The district attorney extended his condolences to everyone who was impacted by the violence. He also asked for privacy for the family because of “the tragic nature of [the] incident.”

Sadly, the incident in Pennsylvania isn’t the first time something like this has happened. In 2018, a 16-year-old boy shot and killed his father in order to protect his mother. The father, 54-year-old Javier Vera, was reportedly strangling his wife when the teen stepped in. The boy was not charged.
